Swachh Bharat Mission

🚽 Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen (SBM-G) Phase II

Objective of the Mission

The primary objective of SBM-G Phase II is to sustain the achievement of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and to ensure comprehensive Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) in rural areas.

The mission aims to transform every village into an ‘ODF Plus’ village, promoting cleanliness and public health.

Who is Eligible?

SBM-G Phase II is a mission targeting the entire village infrastructure. Individual households benefit from the improved environment and, in some cases, direct subsidies.

  • Eligibility for Individual Subsidy (New/Remaining Households): Families who were left out of the initial ODF drive or newly formed households who do not have a functional toilet may be eligible for financial incentive.

  • Beneficiaries: All residents of Petgaon benefit from the public infrastructure projects undertaken, such as community compost pits, gray water treatment systems, and improved public sanitation.

Benefits & Components

The benefits are focused on creating and maintaining public sanitation infrastructure:

  • Sustaining ODF: Continuous monitoring to ensure the village remains ODF.

  • Solid Waste Management (SLWM): Construction of infrastructure like community compost pits, segregation sheds, and provision for door-to-door waste collection.

  • Liquid Waste Management (LWM): Managing gray water (water from sinks/baths) through infrastructure like soak pits and community drainage systems at the village level.

  • Financial Incentive (Individual): A financial incentive of ₹12,000/- is provided for the construction of a new Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) for eligible, uncovered BPL/priority households.

  • Community Facilities: Construction of Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) for use in public places.

Application / Participation Process

The scheme is implemented and managed by the Gram Panchayat. Citizen involvement is crucial for its success.

  1. Request for IHHL: If your household is newly formed or was missed in the initial ODF drive and lacks a toilet, contact the Gram Panchayat to register your need for an Individual Household Latrine (IHHL).

  2. Community Cooperation: Participate actively in waste segregation (separating dry and wet waste) as directed by the Gram Panchayat for effective Solid Waste Management.

  3. Use of Public Infrastructure: Ensure the proper use of the community sanitary complexes and LWM structures (soak pits, drains) developed in the village.

Required Documents

  • For New IHHL Subsidy:

    • Aadhaar Card of the head of the household.

    • Bank Account details (for DBT).

    • Proof that the household does not currently have a toilet.
