Prominent Tree Species (Flora)

The forest is dominated by dry deciduous species, providing valuable timber, minor forest produce, and traditional medicinal resources. Key species include:

  • **Sagwan (Teak - *Tectona grandis*):** Highly valued for its durable, high-quality timber.
  • **Moha (Mahua - *Madhuca longifolia*):** Essential for tribal economy; flowers are used for food and brewing.
  • **Temburni (Tendu - *Diospyros melanoxylon*):** Leaves are commercially important for making 'beedis'.
  • **Behda / Bhera (Beleric - *Terminalia bellirica*):** Known for its medicinal properties (part of the Triphala mix).
  • **Bambu (Bamboo):** Fast-growing resource used widely for construction and handicrafts.
  • **Padas (Palash - *Butea monosperma*):** Known as the 'Flame of the Forest'; its gum, flowers, and leaves have economic and medicinal uses.

Local Wildlife (Fauna)

This protected area provides refuge for diverse wildlife species typical of the region, emphasizing the need for co-existence and conservation. Major fauna sighted include:

  • **Large Mammals:** Tiger (occasional presence), Bear (Sloth Bear), Wolf, and Wild Pigs.
  • **Grazers/Antelopes:** Harin (Deer/Spotted Deer) and Nilgai (Blue Bull), the largest Asian antelope.
  • **Smaller Animals:** Fox, Rabbit (Indian Hare), and a variety of smaller rodents and reptiles.
  • **Avian Life:** The forest supports numerous native bird species crucial for seed dispersal and ecological balance.

Role of the Forest Office

The Forest Office is responsible for preventing illegal logging, managing forest boundaries, coordinating afforestation projects, and ensuring the safety of both wildlife and the local population. The office works closely with the Gram Panchayat to promote sustainable use of forest resources.
