Objective of the Scheme

 

The core objective of MGNREGS is to enhance livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. This also aims to create durable assets and strengthen the livelihood resource base of the rural poor.

 

Who is Eligible?

 

  • Eligibility: Any rural household within the limits of Petgaon Gram Panchayat.

  • Age: Any adult member (18 years and above) of the household.

  • Condition: Must be willing to do unskilled manual work.

  • Priority: By law, one-third of the beneficiaries must be women.

 

Benefits Provided

 

  • 100-Day Job Guarantee: Legal guarantee of 100 days of wage employment per rural household in a financial year.

  • Wages: Wages are paid at the rate fixed by the State Government of Maharashtra (The rate is centrally notified but varies by state, currently around ₹297/- per day).

  • Direct Payment (DBT): Wages are transferred directly into the beneficiary’s bank or post office account.

  • Unemployment Allowance: If employment is not provided within 15 days of the date on which work was demanded, the applicant is entitled to receive an Unemployment Allowance.

 

Application Process

 

The process involves two main steps:

  1. Job Card Registration:

    • If you do not have one, submit an application (Form No. 1) to the Gram Sevak or Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) at the Gram Panchayat office.

    • The Job Card (valid for 5 years) will be issued to your household within 15 days of application.

  2. Work Demand:

    • Once you have a Job Card, submit a written application or fill out the work demand form (Form No. 4) specifying the duration and date from which you want the work, to the Gram Panchayat.

    • Ensure you receive a dated acknowledgement receipt for your application.

 

Required Documents

 

  • Application for Job Card registration (Form No. 1).

  • Proof of residence in the village (Aadhaar Card/Ration Card copy).

  • Bank or Post Office Account Passbook copy (for DBT).

  • Passport size photographs of the family (3 copies).
